What is the general formula for the formation of a polyamide?

Acid + Alcohol -> Ester + Water

Acid + Amine -> Amide + Water

Alcohol + Alcohol -> Ether + Water

Ester + Amine -> Amide + Alcohol

Polyamides, like nylon, are formed by the reaction of a carboxylic acid and an amine, with the elimination of water (condensation reaction).
